My overall impression of Rome is – underwhelmed. It’s like the movie everyone tells you was so great (like any Tarantino flick) and you watch it wondering what all of the fuss was about.

There’s probably no ancient culture talked about in our current environment more than ancient Rome – from books, television programs (Rome, Spartacus) or movies (Gladiator).  Luckily, many of the archeological locations referenced in these works…

Wow – I had no idea Rome was so small – I'd been thinking about going for a while – kinda disappointing.

Nice Video though – who's that singing – Frank Sinatra?

That's Bobby Darin – "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" – used in many mobster movies – which is why I suspect Jay used it in the Rome video.

Wow…….. I liked Rome,  the sites. I did find it to be similar to NYC, dirty, crowded, smog. There is no way in hell I'd drive in Rome, I'm a seasoned driver but Rome is just beyond insane.  One thing I found to be VERY bad at least for me was the cigarette smoke (I'm not a smoker) It was just awful walking around the city.  Cool

Hey Gwen,

Welcome to the forums.  The sites were ok, it just didn't warrant all of the fuss – at least in my opinion.  Maybe it's because I'd just come from Egypt a month before where thousands of years old monuments were properly preserved and didn't have moss growing all over them.  Maybe my expectations were too high going into it – not sure.

In the end, I wouldn't steer people away from Rome – it is certainly worth seeing.  That said, I feel there needs to be some level of expectation setting.  Rome as part of a tour of Italy would be great.
